SEPTEMBER 26, 2022 -- Miyo-wîcîwitowin Day, a special event recognizing truth and reconciliation, will be held at Mosaic Stadium in Regina on Treaty 4 territory on Thursday, September 29th. Approximately, 12,000 high school students from Regina and the surrounding area will hear keynote speakers, music and stories from residential school survivors, and they will view dances and a presentation to advance the 94 calls to action recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Miyo-wîcîwitowin Day, which means “reconciliation/walking together in a good way” in Cree, is being held the day before the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to provide people with the knowledge and information necessary to be able to pause and reflect on the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools and how we all move forward together. This event and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation/Orange Shirt Day are meant to raise awareness of the past, acknowledge the harm that has been inflicted and motivate everyone to practise reconciliation in their everyday actions.
This day will show the pride of Indigenous people and stress the importance of establishing and maintaining a mutually respectful relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people across the country. It will encourage healing, togetherness and moving toward a better outcome for all.
