JANUARY 18, 2024—The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed January 27, 2024, as Family Literacy Day and January 22 to 28, 2024, as Family Literacy Week in Saskatchewan. The week provides opportunities for communities, libraries, schools and other organizations to plan events that raise awareness about the importance of family literacy. Parents with literacy skills support children to acquire literacy skills, contributing to strong families and strong communities.
For Family Literacy Day 2024, ABC Life Literacy Canada set the national theme as “Let’s Have a Family Party!” so they chose a Saskatchewan book about celebrating possibility, music and rhyme together with everyone you call family: Welcome to the Cypher by Khodi Dill, illustrated by Awuradwoa Afful!
There will be a free online reading and live question-and-answer time with Khodi Dill on January 26th and 27th at 10:30 a.m. (CST). To sign up, please CLICK HERE.
The Regina Region Family Literacy Hub is celebrating Family Literacy Day with the Sunrise Library in Regina. Join in on Saturday, January 27th at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate with some good, old-fashioned fun. There will be stories, songs, dancing, rhyming, crafts and, of course, party refreshments!
