March 27, 2023 – The Government of Saskatchewan announced the site of a new West Harbour Landing joint-use school has been confirmed.
Minister of Education, Dustin Duncan; Mayor Sandra Masters; Regina Catholic Board of Education Chair, Shawna Weninger; and Regina Board of Education Chair Tara Molson all spoke at the March 23rd announcement. The announcement was made in front of students and the news media at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School, which is a joint-use school with Regina Public’s Harbour Landing School.
The announcement follows the co-signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by The Ministry of Education, the City of Regina, Regina Public Schools and Regina Catholic Schools. That MOU outlines that the City of Regina will be responsible for acquiring the land, while costs for servicing the land will be shared by the province and City. The province and school divisions are currently working together to determine the servicing requirements, in consultation with the City of Regina.
According to the government news release, the site is on eleven acres of land located on the corner of Gordon Road and Campbell Street in south Regina. This site will be the location for a new joint-use facility that is expected to be open by 2026. The design is still underway, in consultation with the community and based on enrolment projections from the Regina Catholic and Public School divisions. The facility will also include a 90-space child care centre, and a community space with a kitchen area that can be used both by schools, as well as the broader Harbour Landing community.
"We heard clearly from families that more educational space was needed in the rapidly growing Harbour Landing community," Regina Board of Education Chair Tara Molson said. "Today's announcement demonstrates that Boards of Education, the city and the province can together work toward building the needed educational and community spaces that will benefit students and their families for decades to come."
