Sarah Cummings Truszkowski is pleased to be elected as subdivision 5 Trustee for her second term. Sarah lives in Cathedral with her partner, Robert, and their three children. Two of her children attend Regina Public Schools, and her oldest has just started at the University of Saskatchewan! Sarah is a past School Community Council Chairperson, avid supporter of the arts, and longtime community volunteer.
Sarah is not new to the education system as she has both a Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Education degree from the University of Regina. Sarah was a high school Visual Arts teacher and now teaches painting and drawing classes from her home studio. Sarah is also a professional, exhibiting artist whose work focuses on motherhood, feminism, the environment, social issues, and the cultural histories of women.
In 2020, Sarah wrote “Poverty in Regina Public Schools,” a report that investigated the root causes of child poverty. She has consistently advocated for poverty reduction strategies in Regina Public Schools and with the City of Regina, such as a National School Food Program and free transit for children and youth.
Sarah is very engaged and attends many School Community Council meetings and school events to hear from her community. She uses her position and privilege to work towards a stronger and more equitable, public education system. Sarah believes that public education is one of the most important public services in our province that needs our utmost respect and attention.
Sarah has served as Chairperson (2023-24) and Vice-Chair of the Regina Board of Education (2021-23). Sarah is now the Chair of the new Priorities, Planning, and Policy Committee.
