May 9, 2019 -- Regina Public Schools’ “Laughter for Literacy” raised $79,000!

These funds will support Summer Success Camps, which aim to improve educational outcomes for Regina’s children by building essential literacy skills, while preventing summer learning loss.  This success is a great example of how the Regina community can work together to make a difference and contribute to the learning and literacy success of students.

This is the third annual and successful event held benefiting Summer Success Camps. Thanks to everyone in the Regina Public Schools Community for making the event and the fundraising a success.

Last year, George Lee School's Advo-Kids (kids advocating for kids) sent letters to the Saskatchewan Advocate for Children and Youth. After learning about mental health, the students were determined to raise awareness and advocate for better government response.

The 2018 Saskatchewan Advocate for Children and Youth Annual Report highlights the Advo-Kids' work. Read it on on page 18 of the report.

MAY 2, 2019 - All Regina Public and Catholic parents/caretakers are invited to attend a parent engagement and family/school partnership workshop titled, "Do parents know how much they really matter?" on Wednesday, May 15th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Miller Comprehensive Catholic High School. The guest speaker will be educator Tony Dalton from Australia.

Sheldon-Williams Collegiate student Nour Albaradan was honoured with the Multicultural Youth Leadership Award for significant contributions from people 29 years and under.

APRIL 1, 2019 - On March 19^th, Regina Public Schools hosted the second annual Indigenous Student Forum at Division Office. In attendance were trustees from the Regina Public School Board, members of the Elders’ Advisory Council and eight students from each of our high schools. This year, the Indigenous Advocates from Albert, Kitchener, Seven Stones and Thomson Community Schools were also invited to each bring two Grade 8 students to the event.

Ben Ironstand, a teacher at Thom Collegiate, was the keynote speaker and he talked to the audience about resilience and the ability to overcome barriers by connecting with culture and language. Ben’s keynote message served as a starting point to the discussion about four pre-selected focus questions.
